LG Optimus Vu Review, Specs, Price, cell phone mobile, LG has confirmed that it plans to offer smartphone buyers looking for something a little larger than the norm an alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy Note with its own Optimus Vu.
Due for a formal unveiling at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona early next month, the Optimus Vu boasts a 5in LCD screen with in-plane switching (IPS) technology for improved viewing angles and a 1024×768 resolution, giving the smartphone-tablet hybrid a 4:3 aspect ratio and an overall size of 139.6×90.4×8.5mm.
That ratio makes it near-unique in Android devices, which usually feature a wider aspect ratio. As a result, certain applications may fail to operate correctly at first – an issue with which those who have installed an unofficial Android build onto their HP TouchPad tablets, which also features a 4:3 aspect ratio, will be familiar.
Beneath the 5in multi-touch screen, which like the Samsung Galaxy Note will come with stylus as well as finger-based input capabilities, a dual-core 1.5GHz processor provides plenty of poke along with 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM and 32GB of available storage space. LG has yet to confirm if it plans to launch any cheaper models with less storage.
At the rear of the device, an 8 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED-based flash captures both still and video images, while a 1.3-megapixel camera is included on the front for video chat functionality.
Sadly, LG has confirmed that the otherwise cutting-edge handset – which will, in selected countries, include Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G capabilities – will ship with the outdated Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ operating system. Shortly after launch, LG promises, this will be upgraded to Google’s latest Android 4.0 ‘Ice Cream Sandwich’.

LG has yet to confirm pricing and UK availability for the Optimus Vu, with more details expected when the device is formally launched at the Mobile World Congress event next month.
